Oral health is equally important to physical health. That is why we should not neglect the importance of dental hygiene. Taking care of our mouth, teeth and gums prevent some serious diseases that can largely affect our body’s overall condition.
When I was younger, I didn’t pay attention on how to properly brush my teeth. It caused me some serious tooth decays and gum problems for years. When I became so conscious with my physical self, I started to see dentist to take care of my teeth. She advised me to wear braces to fix the crooked teeth and did some procedures like root canal and dental fillings. That was a long process and cost me thousands of bucks but it’s all totally worth it!
Oh well, I learned my lesson here. That is why, as a Mom, I promise to take care of my kiddo’s milk teeth as early as now to avoid any health issues in the future. I read that it is important to take care of those little teeth from the time that they appear for child’s development and overall health.
“Baby teeth also holds space in the jaws for permanent teeth that are growing under the gums. When a baby tooth is lost too early, the permanent teeth can drift into the empty space and make it difficult for other adult teeth to find room when they come in.” – Mouth Healthy
So to practice a healthier mouth, my baby and I make brushing fun with these ways:
Make brushing time a routine. To ensure that my kid remembers the time when to brush his teeth, I set a specific schedule in a day to do it. So right after eating his meal, I prepare everything – toothbrush, toothpaste, and clean water so he knows that it’s about time to do the thing. It takes a lot of practice at first but slowly, he starts to learn everything.
Sing or Act. I can still recall the Colgate commercial in my mind: “Brush, brush, brush three times a day / Brush, brush, brush your teeth, cavities away / Brush, brush, brush three times a day / Brush with Colgate.” I usually use this tune for him to enjoy everything while brushing his teeth. It’s totally effective because he loves singing and rhyming. Sometimes we also act like there’s a dirt inside his mouth so he needs to remove by brushing. However, this is not as effective as singing because he easily gets distracted.
Be proud of what he does. Whenever Kean is doing something great, I always remind him that I’m proud of him through my gesture like clapping my hands. By this, he would feel that he did something right. So whenever he finished brushing his teeth, I would always say “Yey” while clapping my hands. It’s like a milestone every time we finished doing teeth brushing.
Make fun with characters. Obviously, babies love cartoon characters because they are colorful and pleasing to the eyes. That is why, Colgate Toothpaste and Toothbrush with Minion characters are fun-to-be-with during brushing time!
There are two types of Colgate Oral Kids which is suitable for every age:
- Colgate Minions Kids 2-5 Years Old (Junior) Oral Care Pack

Brushing takes a lot of patience especially to little a kid like my Kean. I wanted to take care of his teeth as early as now. Eventually, he will learn everything and it will become part of his good habit. Happy brushing everyone!
